In CKD, dietary management plays an important role in preventing the development and progression of CKD, improving clinical outcomes (eg, proteinuria, hypertension), reducing symptom burden and managing electrolyte abnormalities frequently seen in end-stage kidney disease, particularly in people requiring haemodialysis. 1 2 Compared with the general population, people with CKD have an increased risk of mortality from 1.2 times higher in those with mild dysfunction in early CKD to 5.9 times higher in patients on dialysis.
